Mae Marvelle is in the process of writing her first book, a memoir about her journey with Dissociative Identity Disorder.

Because of What Happened

Because of what happened

My life has not been my own

Nor has my body, down to the bone

Because of what happened

My innocence died screaming

And my life never got to have meaning

Because of what happened

My tiny soul was fractured

And no one bothered to love me after

Because of what happened

I was never able to grow

Frozen in time, all on my own

Because of what happened

I didn’t get to decide

I never got to ask for reasons why

Because of what happened

I can barely feel

And my life just doesn’t seem real

Because of what happened

I keep flashing back

I have seizures and panic attacks

Because of what happened

I am always scared

My system is far beyond repair

Because of what happened

My life has already been written

It’s a special kind of hell that I sit in
